Graduate Teaching Assistant: Department of Chemistry, University of York, England (2010-2014)

Teaching advanced laboratory skills and scientific theory to groups of between ten and twenty undergraduate and Masters students. Subjects taught included:

  • the study of reaction mechanisms and intermediates
  • modern organic and inorganic synthetic techniques
  • chromatographic techniques for the separation and purification of reaction products
  • spectroscopic techniques, notably Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Infrared and Mass Spectrometry

Voluntary Work:

October 2014-July 2015, Le Foyer, Lyon, France: Working at sheltered accommodation with previously homeless young men aged 18-25, my role was to converse, play games and generally provide companionship on a weekly basis. I facilitated participation in events organised by the project “Culture Pour Tous” which provides access to concerts, theatre productions, museum expositions and sporting events for the disadvantaged.

Interests: 

Golf (Achieved a scratch handicap (2010-2013) and represented Cambridgeshire as well as the University of St Andrews). Additional interests include world affairs, photography (see www.jonosler.com/photojournalism) world literature in French and English and learning Russian.
